Welcome!
I'm so glad that you have taken the steps to explore therapy. What an important, valuable and very personal choice. Making the decision to share your healing journey with someone else is not easy. I feel so honored that you are considering including me in your story.
Many people I work with are looking to heal past traumas. In service of supporting healing from these challenging events, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Transforming Touch (TT). These therapies help people cope, regulate, and feel less overwhelmed, and feel more at home in our bodies.

Creativity is also an important part of my work. As a creative person, I enjoy using art, music, and other creative activities in therapy when it feels helpful. These tools can give us new ways to process both hard and positive experiences. Together, we will find what approach feels right for you.

Before opening Deep Roots, I worked as the Director of the Violence Awareness & Response Program at MNSU, Mankato for ten years. I received my Master of Arts in Gender & Women’s Studies in 2011 and my Master of Social Work in 2019 from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I love to read, play music, spend time near water, and laugh with friends. I look forward to getting to know you as we work together to meet your goals in therapy.

A little about Laura
My name is Laura Schultz. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and I specialize in working with individuals who have survived and experienced intimate partner and sexual violence. I also work people exploring who they are – this might include questions about sexuality, gender identity, race and ethnicity, religious or spiritual identity.
I firmly believe that everyone deserves respect, healing, self-compassion, and understanding. My approach is intersectional, feminist, and trauma-informed, which means I honor your experiences and pay attention to the ways your identity and experiences shape your story.

It's not easy being a person.
As we move through life, we develop many different relationships with others, ourselves, and our experiences. Through those moments, we develop beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. Sometimes, those beliefs work for a while, but eventually begin to hurt us and those around us. We can work together to replace old, outdated beliefs with more adaptive and generative ones.
Empowerment is at the center of my work with others. As we work together, we'll identify which tools work best for your goals and practice in new ways. My clients thrive most when they're highly motivated to make change, when they engage consistently in sessions, and when they are open to looking at old patterns and behaviors with curiosity.
